Microsoft has released a 250GB hard drive add-on for the 360, but is only offering the added storage space to Japanese customers, according to IGN.com.

It’s an odd move from the console manufacturer, as Japan is quite obviously the 360’s weakest market. Regardless, a company spokesperson announced that “Microsoft is now offering a standalone 250GB Hard Drive in Japan to provide consumers in Japan more storage options for their games and entertainment”. The 360 has barely sold 1 million units (as of March, 2009) in Japan, compared to almost 12 million in North America and 10 million in Europe. These numbers, combined with shortages of the current 120GB model, suggest that bigger storage solutions are on the way for both European and North American consumers. Only one question remains; When?
